I like being around people who build you up instead of tearing you down(1Thes. 5:11-24, 1Peter 5:8)—basically, the human equivalent of a good contractor, not a wrecking ball.
That list changes day to day (because, let’s be honest, some people wake up and choose chaos), but at its core, it’s my closest friends (3), my family, and my kids (10). My adult kids are like the bonus round in life—proof of past blessings, a hopeful glimpse into the future, and a constant reminder that optimism and enthusiasm aren’t just for the young… but they sure do pull it off better.
As for haters and naysayers, I’m not saying avoid them like a suspiciously cheap sushi place, because sometimes they just need a little light in their day. But hang around too long, and you might start picking up their bad vibes—like secondhand smoke but for your mood.
The best company? Positive people—not the over-the-top “everything is sunshine and rainbows” types, but the ones who know that a little realism makes optimism even sweeter.
Find a good balance, and most importantly… have a great day!
