The daily post prompt about how often saying “no” interferes with our goals made me reflect on how frequently my “yes” gets in the way of my own aspirations. For me, saying “yes” too often creates busyness that distracts me from the most important things in life. How often do you say “no” to protect your goals?
This question immediately brought to mind the verse, “Let your ‘no’ be no and your ‘yes’ be yes” (Matthew 5:37). In today’s fast-paced culture, we tend to say “yes” to too many things, inviting noise that drowns out stillness and the ability to simply let life in. Sure, I’ve said “no” to opportunities out of fear and later regretted it, thinking, “I should have said yes.” But more often, it’s saying “yes” too much that holds me back from my goals. I find myself agreeing to trivial things or saying “yes” because I feel someone expects it—only to realize it pulls me away from what I’m truly committed to. There’s a saying: “If the devil can’t make you sin, he’ll make you busy,”(Corrie ten Boom). In today’s world, busyness is a major stumbling block to focusing on and pursuing what matters most.
For me, it’s about keeping my “yes” and “no” clear and intentional. I want my decisions to reflect what I’m committed to, so I can stay focused on my goals without getting sidetracked by half-hearted choices.
