Favorite Brands? Let’s Get Real

When I saw today’s prompt about favorite brands, my mind did a quick catwalk strut to the usual suspects: Hermès, Gucci, Rolex—those high-end logos that scream “I’ve made it!” (or at least fake it ‘til you make it). In my younger, slightly delusional years, I’d splurge on stuff I couldn’t afford, chasing that “look at me” vibe. Spoiler: I never owned Hermès, but I did blow rent money on a knockoff bag once. Youth, right?

Now? I’m over the label lust. Give me a solid pair of jeans from Walmart, some comfy work boots that laugh at snow, and a flannel so worn it’s basically a hug. Old Navy, thrift stores, discount outlets—these are my jam. Fit matters, sure, but I’m not here to blind you with a logo. At this stage, I’d rather you don’t stare.

Don’t get me wrong—I’m not above a little indulgence. I’ll hunt for a Starbucks like it’s my life’s mission (gas station coffee? Hard pass). And if the vibe’s right, I’m popping a bottle of Dom Pérignon, because why not? But my true favorite brand? It’s Real. No, not the snooty “authenticity” kind—I mean the “I’m comfy, this fits, and I didn’t sell my kidney for it” kind.

Flashback to the K-Mart Blue Light Specials of my childhood—those glorious moments when a siren and a spinning light sent shoppers sprinting for a deal on, like, tube socks. I’d beg my parents to dive in, only to hear, “Kid, we’re fresh out of cash.” Embarrassing? Maybe. But also weirdly fun. Fast-forward to now, and I’m all about the green light: snag what works, skip the hype, and keep it real. That’s my brand, and it’s always on sale.
